  • Google I/O 2016 Significant Announcements

Google had organized 3 days event at Shoreline Amphitheatre. Event had been organized on May 18,19,20. Registration for event began from March 8. Sundar Pichai was keynote speaker. Google did not give any information about hardware giveaway in the event. Here's list of some of the significant announcement's made in the event.

    • Android N
      • The new JIT compiler. Not only does it speed up system updates but also improves app install times by a whopping 75%.
      • Multi-Window support. Even though Samsung and some Xposed modules have already brought this to Android, native multi-window support is a pretty significant update.
      • The new update system - Similar to how Chrome handles updates. A new update, when available, will be downloaded in the background and will seamlessly update the old system image with the new one, keeping your apps and data intact. This means no more ‘Android is starting’ and ‘Optimizing apps’ dialogues after an update!
    • Daydream
      • Google’s platform for creating rich VR experiences on Android devices. Google has created a basic reference design for a VR headset and remote for other manufacturers. VR will also be heavily supported in Android N, with OS-level optimizations allowing latency to drop to only 20ms for a butter-smooth performance. Also, Android N will feature a VR based interface and also a full dedicated app market in Google Play for VR.
    • Google Assistant
      • Google Now is getting a lot smarter now with intelligent detection of contexts. Two way conversation while understanding your context. For example, if you ask Google “Where is the Taj Mahal?” and after that “How old is it?”, it intelligently learns the context of what you are referring to. Pretty cool, eh?
    • Firebase
      • A brand new Firebase SDK, launching today, will work on Android, iOS and the web. It has got a slew of new features like Firebase crash reporting which help to identify issues and bugs and take action on them accordingly. It should help developers see app crashes updating in real time. Also there are other tools in the SDK which help developers send specific targeted notifications to users without writing a single line of code and a remote configuration tool which helps in app testing and experimenting at scale.
    • Android Studio 2.2
      • new layout editor, constraint layouts which help build UIs for multiple screens and resolutions easily. Enhanced support for C++cmake and NDK build support apart from Gradle. Also there is Test recording which will help you test your app locally or in a cloud and will give you an auto-generated signed report.
    • Android Instant Apps
      • Use an app (rather specific parts of it) without even installing it. Once implemented in your app, even clicking on a link pertaining to your app will download only those specific parts or modules of the app from Google Play and run them. There would also be an install option if the user wishes to install. A big big step forward.
    • Android Wear 2.0
      • Pretty cool new features like support for cellular data, using it seamlessly even when the phone is not with you or even switched off for that matter. Introduction of standalone apps is also a really awesome addition. One can also now customize watch faces easily now as Android Wear 2.0 allows you to display only the information you want on your watch face. New features also include a keyboard and smart-reply similar to what Google Inbox has to offer.
    • Advancements in Machine Learning, Natural language Processing and AI.
      • If there was one thing that Google was determined to announce and show at Google I/O was their advancements in Machine Learning, AI and Natural Language Processing. Google has open-sourced parts of its TensorFlow and Cloud Platform APIs allowing developers to access its Computer Vision APIs. Google has also made progress in the robotics field, an example of which showed us robotic arms picking up specific things without any special programmed instructions (that’s the power of Deep Learning for you!) Google has also started building specialized hardware called Tensor Processing Units or TPUs which was the same hardware that powered AlphaGo in its match against Lee Sedol (again, Deep Learning, Machine Learning and AI together in tandem!) They displayed their prowess and progress consistently throughout the keynote and these three are definitely going to be kinda the 3 pillars which they intend to build on.
    • Google Home
      • Google Home is just a small speaker that sits in your living room, bedroom, kitchen or just about anywhere you want it to. So what’s so special about this speaker? Well, you can do pretty much everything you can do with Google Now (Google Assistant?) on the Google Home, totally hands-free!Wanna see your calendar appointments, make new ones, make reservations at places? You can literally just ask Google Home to do so.Integration with Nest will enable controlling the lights, thermostats, etc. and integration with Chromecast and Chromecast Audio will enable controlling your media devices like TVs at home, just with your voice
    • Android Apps are coming to ChromeOS
      • After months of speculation, Google finally announced that Android Apps can now run natively run on ChromeOS. The apps will run just like they would on a phone or tablet, albeit maybe with a different orientation. What’s more is that Google Play Services too, will be making their way over to ChromeOS! This means the gigantic and ever increasing catalog of apps available for Android would also now be available for ChromeOS!
    • Allo
      • Allo is Google’s newest messaging app. Its got some pretty nice features like Google Assistant integration, Snapchat-like photo inking, end-to-end encryption (in incognito mode) and WhisperShout with which you can change the font size of that particular message to make an impression. Although this looks to be a nicely built app from the first look, Google is very very late to the messaging app party and It doesn't really seems people will switch over and adopt Allo anytime soon.
    • Duo
      • Google’s latest video calling app. Some nice features include reliable performance on slower networks and some gimmicks like ‘Knock-Knock’ which allows the receiver to see the caller or whatever the caller chooses to show, on the other side. Once again, this app too has some serious competition, It is expected to be more adopted by users then Allo.

  • CREO MARK 1 : Specification and in-depth analysis

A new smartphone every month, sounds tempting, isn't it.

Creo, a Bengaluru -based  startup. have promised to provide experience of new smartphone every month, by giving software updates to user every-month. Creo Mark 1, priced at Rs 19,999 is available at Flipkart. After using this device for, here is my review and analysis of Creo Mark 1.

Design and Screen of Creo Mark 1

    Creo Mark 1 : Design
Creo Mark 1 features 5.5″ QHD LCD (  big-screen ) display that have layer of scratch-resistant Gorilla glass 3. On side panel there are wide metal frame,  where you can get anything you want to do  device.

    Creo Mark 1 : Design
Creo Mark 1 weights around 190g , it does feel a little hefty in comparison to other devices in this price range. Mark 1 have higher screen resolution of 2560x1440p in the display. As a result, the pixel density is 534ppi. That gives videos and pictures a sharper and crisper look .

    Creo Mark 1 : Design
On the bottom, there s USB  slot and speaker. At right side there are three round buttons, two for volume and one control power of device. On other side there two slot for micro SIM and micro SD card. Second slot is hybrid slot that can be used for SIM as well as SD card .

    Creo Mark : Design
Hardware and Processor of Creo Mark 1

Creo Mark 1 is powered by a 1.95GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 SoC, which is Paired with a 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM. We have seen a variant of this processor with 3GB of RAM in the LeEco Le 1s smartphone, which is currently selling at Rs.10,999.

    Creo Mark 1 : Hardware

    Camera of Creo Mark 1

The 21-megapixel rear camera in Mark 1 is powered by Sony’s IMX 230 Exmor sensor. It can record 4K videos and comes with interesting features such as Live Photo (video within a photo) and 3D photos (which uses both front and rear camera to take 3D shots).

    Software of Creo Mark 1

Creo Mark 1 comes with  FUEL OS, which is based on Android. It comes with features such as Sense, a universal search engine that can find anything on the phone and can be evoked by a double tap on the home button.

Echo, which is a voicemail service of sorts that can work with any carrier, Retriever, which sends an email to you if another SIM is inserted in your device, smart forwarding to forward calls from one SIM to another one it is unreachable, notification manager, and segregated SMS inbox for messages from people and businesses, with quick reply and copy OTP functions.

    Creo Mark 1 : Software
But CREO's claim to fame is the 'A New Phone Every Month' initiative, where the company will push out updates to the phone every month that will add functionality to it. And the updates will be based on community feedback and what the users want, and you will be informed of all the changes before you install the update.

    Battery of Creo Mark 1

The Handset is packed with a 3100 mAh battery that comes with fast charging facility.

    Our Verdict

I personally am bit disappointed with processor used in Mark 1, Why not snapdragon 820 , that's question one should ask, well you can't expect a new phone who have low processing. Otherwise everything in this phone is perfect, specially screen ,if you are interested in buying this phone then go on but we suggest to wait for sometime as it may see a price drop very soon.

  • HitFlim3, One Of Best Free Video Editing Software

HitFilm3 from the UK company FXHome is a bit of an enigma. It acts perfectly well as a very capable stand-alone package, very well indeed in fact as it has many features others don’t, but when installed, it also acts as a plugin to a host NLE, thus making all those extra features available no matter what NLE you use (as long as it is supported of course).

Now there is HitFilm3 Express, which as you’d expect is the ‘Lite’ version of its bigger brother, and to all intents and purposes is free. There are some things missing from the fully blown version,, including 4K capability, ‘only’ 157  included effects (you buy extras in ‘Packs’ at USD$9.95 each) and it is purely stand alone (no Vegas, Premiere etc plugin-in support). FXHome has also seen fit to take out ‘professional’ chroma-keying, the de-noiser and rendering is limited to 8 bit.'

    Add on

Additionally, the AVCHD and Dolby 3 licences are not included due to licencing restrictions, so they will be available in a ‘Premium Pack’ along with others as mentioned.

Like its bigger brother, there are in actual fact two components to the core of HitFilm 3 Express, those of the editor proper, and second, the compositing/effects side. For the first time user, this aspect could be very confusing with due respect to the HitFilm 3 designers. But make no mistake, even though HitFilm 3 Express is to all intents and purposes, free on both the Mac and PC, compositing abilities add hugely powerful features to the program and make the slog of learning it well worth the effort.

To assist in this, there is a very good PDF manual available – much better than an online help system in my books as it can be printed off, bound and read or perused at leisure as well as on-demand as needed. Better still fxHome has put together more than 40 tutorial videos explaining the basics of editing and how to put together specific features to make effects.

One of these, and the project files are available, is called “Portal Combat” and is a sequence of tutorials showing how this movie, developed by production company Film Riot, was put together.

So how does this compositing work?

As is to be expected these days, HitFilm 3 Express is a multi-tracked system, letting different clips be placed on tracks, including audio, transitions, still images etc. However, a track can be converted to a special compositing track. This is in turn able to be broken into multiple layer tracks.

To each layer track an effect can be added and fine-tuned, and there is a huge library of possibilities from correction filters to effects and even 3D options so you have clips and objects in x, y and z space.

Due to its roots – the first thig I remember from fxHome was a plugin for adding muzzle flashes to guns – there is a strong element of effects in the library and indeed, two of the two main tutorials run through creating a “portal” in space / time as well as the aforementioned muzzle flashes to simulate gun fire of all different sorts.

As mentioned, there are a number of add on packs you can purchase to supplement these supplied effects, and some examples of these include Damage, Colourist, Destruction, Pro Light Flares, Sci-Fi Adventure, Particle Simulator, 3D Modelling Toolkit and Film Looks.

If your filmmaking is heavily involves the use of effects, and many aspiring filmmakers do seem to tend towards the genres of zombie, high action and dystopian Earth type stuff, then HitFilm 3 Express will be of very great interest. Of course, it can be used for less effects driven material as it is a very able editor in its own right, and the price tag is of course attractive.

For the first time user, the learning curve may be a bit steep and daunting beyond basic editing. But persisting with the tutorials will certainly pay off in the long run. Just don’t expect to install HitFilm 3 Express and to be creating your version of Star Wars within minutes. But take your time, learn the application and the sky is certainly the limit.

You can download Hitfilm 3 Express from its dedicated website.
  • Slack Introduces New Calling Feature

The messaging app Slack recently launched a new voice calling feature that started releasing its beta version on March 2. The beta testing will begin in Slack’s desktop app and in Chrome

    slack

    The New Voice Calling Feature
According to The Verge, Slack is letting its users experience one-to-one voice chats for free. The new feature was placed in development after Slack acquired Screenhero, a screen-sharing app. In 2015, Slack also aimed to add voice calls, screen sharing and video calls into its messaging app, making it more flexible.

Users who pay for the app can begin voice chats with up to 15 individuals. At present, Slack will observe and maintain its beta version to determine its users' response. A limited rollout seems to be ideal, compared to an official big launch, provided how Slack has grown in popularity within a short period of time.

Slack is also asking beta users to provide feedback and suggest the features and functions they wish from the calling feature
    slack
    How to Start
Those who have administrative privileges need to enable voice calling. As soon as these are enabled, there should be a phone icon that appears throughout the app, allowing users to initiate a call with an individual or group. As soon as the call is made, icons of people included in the call will be shown and the active individuals will be highlighted.

Also included in Slack's voice calling is the Reactions feature, which lets users respond immediately to the person they are talking to via an emoji.

Tech Crunch wrote that users only need the latest Slack app, which was released late in February 2016, or the web interface. Calls generally use WebRTC, so no additional plugin is required. As soon as players are on the beta, there will be a phone button that appears in every channel and on individual direct messages. Hitting the button will post an instant conference call within your channel for anyone to join via a single click.

Slack mentioned that adding voice chat will not limit its support for third-party integrations. This means that users can still start Skype calls and Hangouts via Slack if they wish.

More updates and details on Slack’s new feature and the official version are expected soon.
  • DDoS Attacks Create Smokescreens for Larceny

Distributed denial of service attacks have evolved from protest tool to criminal weapon.
More than one in three DDoS attacks are used to plant malware or a virus on company systems, and 40 percent of them result in data theft, according to NeuStar's semiannual DDoS attack and protection report released last week.
"Until two years ago, DDoS attacks were really seen as just a disruption and annoyance tool," said NeuStar Senior Security Manager Joe Loveless.
"There's more purpose behind the attacks now than simply to be disruptive," he told TechNewsWorld.
"DDoS attacks are clearly being used for more sinister purposes," Loveless continued. "They're accompanying data breaches, the implementation of malware within an organization, theft of intellectual property, and stealing funds or customer information."

    Frequency Increase

As motives behind DDoS attacks have changed, so too has the frequency of the assaults. Half the companies in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa have suffered DDoS attacks, NeuStar reported. More than eight of 10 of those companies (83 percent) have been assaulted more than once.
"We're seeing an increase in the pace that companies are being attacked," Loveless said. "They're being attacked repeatedly, as opposed to one-off attacks."
Of the 750 organizations analyzed, more than half were attacked -- and of those that were attacked, more than half had been attacked at least six times, he noted. "It's not so much if an organization will be attacked, it's a matter of how often."

    Scrubbing Traffic

A majority of DDoS atttacks now are on the smaller side, but User Datagram Protocol attacks, "which are quite large, continue to be popular," Loveless said. "Large attacks over 5 gigabits are more than 40 percent of the attacks that we've seen."
UDP attacks flood random ports on a target with UDP data. It overwhelms the target and makes it unresponsive to anyone trying to access it.
How are organizations protecting themselves against DDoS attacks? There are network appliances that offer a measure of protection, but they can be overwhelmed, too.
There are also cloud solutions. Cloud-based services can intercept all of an organization's network traffic and reroute it through a scrubbing infrastructure. However, those services need to be accompanied by experts that make sure traffic is being scrubbed and not purged.
"There are tactics where traffic can get so bad that it will be 'black holed.' That's like throwing the baby out with the bath water," Loveless explained.
"That's not a good thing, because you're losing good traffic as well as the bad," he continued. "With a good scrubbing service, you can maintain the good traffic while eliminating the bad."

    The Cocoon Browser

Web browsers have become a popular conduit for all kinds of cyberattacks. Net marauders are finding it easier to infect a target with malicious software through a browser than to face an organization's cyberdefenses head-on.
With that in mind, Virtual World Computing has launched a new secure browser called "Cocoon."
Cocoon's security rests in the cloud, which means any nastiness you encounter on the Web will occur on VWC's servers and not on your hard drive. That includes scrutinizing potential threats for malware.
Another benefit of working through the cloud is that all your Web activity is masked to companies trying to track your behavior on the Net by VWC's servers.
In addition, since your browsing behavior is stored in VWC's cloud, you can log into Cocoon from any machine and have access to things like your browsing history and bookmarks.

    Safety in Isolation

"We isolate everything from your hard drive," explained Jeff Bermant, CEO of Virtual World Computing. "That way, you don't run the risk of downloading something that might harm your computer."
Bromium does much the same thing with its security solution for enterprises. What is new with Cocoon is that it provides this kind of protection to consumers for the first time.
With most users entrenched in their browsing habits, getting them to try something new, no matter how secure, will be an uphill battle, however. What's more, VWC will be charging an annual subscription fee of US$9.995 for its browser, while all other major browser makers offer their software for free.
Some consumers will find the fee a bargain, though, Bermant believes.
"You're paying us $10 a year to make sure a drive-by doesn't ruin your day, and we won't sell your information to someone else," he told TechNewsWorld. "Other free browsers let people follow you around the Web,. We won't let people follow you around the Web, but you pay us in exchange for that."

    Privacy Report

When it comes to privacy, you'd think that industries required by government regulators to fund privacy programs would spend more on those programs than industries not required to spend a dime on them. However, that doesn't seem to be the case.
Spending on privacy programs was higher in unregulated industries than in regulated industries, including the government itself, the International Association of Privacy Professionals said in its annual report released last week.
The median budget for privacy programs in unregulated industries, such as marketing and software, was $300,000. That compares to $250,000 for unregulated industries, such as financial services and healthcare, and $130,000 for government, the IAPP found.
"Government is always fighting resource and budget issues," observed IAPP Vice President of Research and Education Omer Tene.
How government and regulated industries view privacy may be a key to the discrepancies in spending.
"In regulated industries, privacy is still treated as a legal compliance issue, while the less regulated industries treat it as a strategic issue," Tene told TechNewsWorld. "As the recognition that it is a strategic issue becomes broader, we will see it rise in importance despite cost cutting measures."

  • LibreOffice 5.0 Is the Office Suite Champ

LibreOffice 5.0, The Document Foundation's latest open source office suite, deserves to top the list of contenders for best performance in this category.

The Document Foundation last month released LibreOffice 5.0 for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows. It is the 10th major release since the launch of the project, and the first in the third development cycle. The release coincides with the rollout of Windows 10 and positions the LibreOffice suite head to head with Microsoft Office. This is an important milestone for LibreOffice.
As Microsoft positions its online access to Office as a cross-platform tool, the vast improvements to LibreOffice make using other office apps unnecessary. LibreOffice 5.0 is a full-featured open source office suite that compares head to head with every product in the same category, while it stands out for superior interoperability features.

    LibreOffice 5.0 interface
The latest release of LibreOffice may not look much different, but it is loaded with changes, fixes and new features. The user interface is greatly modernized with better looking icons and updated menus in all of the modules.
LibreOffice 5.0 also makes a clear distinction between the more limited features and performance of the OpenOffice suite. LibreOffice forked from OpenOffice when the Apache Foundation stalled in developing its office modules.
LibreOffice 5.0 sports a significantly improved user interface, with better management of the screen space and a cleaner look. Much of its improved interoperability with Microsoft Office and Apple iWork results from new and improved filters to handle nonstandard formats. Improvements are readily seen in every module of the suite: Writer, Calc (spreadsheet), Impress (presentation maker), Draw and Base (database).

    Hefty Upgrade

LibreOffice 5.0 builds on the 4.x family.
Based on user pings for updates, more than 80 million people and large organizations around the globe use LibreOffice, according to The Document Foundation.
The product has undergone three development cycles since 2010.
The first cycle, or 3.x family, involved cleaning up the inherited old source code from its legacy clutter, according to Michael Meeks, a director at the Document Foundation. The 4.x family saw the suite become more responsive. The 5.x family made the suite smarter in terms of its user interface.
Much of the improvement is bolted into place under the hood. I have used LibreOffice since it forked from OpenOffice. I use it on a variety of Linux machines with differing monitor resolutions. The user interface in LibreOffice 5.0 has not changed substantially from earlier versions -- it is just a lot less cluttered and easier to use.

    Better UI

The user interface provides more space for creating and editing. It now has easier access to formatting options. You can apply that assessment generally to all of the modules.
The more I used LibreOffice 5.0, the more familiar I got with the subtle changes. For instance, the Sidebar in Impress uses the available space better, which really improves the content creation workflow. In all the modules, the mouse cursors in windows are more native and modern looking.
Another example of better appearance is the Image and Table context menus, which have been rearranged. Direct formatting entries are gone to eliminate duplication. They are available in Toolbars and Sidebar. The Clipboard functions (Cut, Copy and Paste) are always visible.

    Calc Changes

I use spreadsheets and word processing documents a lot -- they are integral to my work and family tasks. I use them for tracking expenses and projects, and for keeping records for organizations I'm involved with. I rarely have to deal with incompatibility issues with word processing documents or spreadsheets. Interoperability generally has not been an issue.
In fact, recipients of documents and spreadsheets never know they're opening files that weren't created in Microsoft Office. The improvements in Calc are nice for me. For enterprise users, they are critical upgrades.
These improvements include having the option to repeat item labels in Calc's Pivot Tables. Conditional Formatting allows a solid background and a minimum/maximum bar length. Plus, it can hide underlying values.
Calc now has an engineering notation option for scientific and number formats. It also has several new options for floor and ceiling spreadsheet functions.

    Nice Word Play

The word processing module Writer has several excellent improvements. For instance, a new AutoCorrect extension simplifies emoji and other Unicode character input using standard emoji shortcodes and other keywords surrounded by colons.
The Styles and Formatting tab of the Sidebar now displays a preview of the available styles. This is a smart improvement. So is the Word-compatible text highlighting and shading. They are now preserved during import and export of documents, and there's an option to specify how to export LibreOffice character backgrounds as highlighting or as shading.
Anyone who spends valuable time with page displays and image manipulation will love the new ability to crop images with the mouse by accessing the function via the contextual menu entry. You can save images to disk and exchange them with other images from disk.
It is important to note that most of the feature improvements I have mentioned are not isolated to a particular module. Many of them are available in all relevant modules. So what I just described with image manipulation within Writer is also available in Impress and in Calc.

    LibreOffice 5.0 Writer
New toolbars and better integrated features offer very customizable view options in LibreOffice 5.0. Writer is shown here, but the improvements on screen and under the hood are plentiful in all of the office suite modules.

    Interoperability Excels

The ability to import and export data and objects is greatly improved in LibreOffice 5.0. For example, Writer can import Apple Pages files. Calc can import Apple Numbers, Lotus 1-2-3 (wk3 and wk4) and Quattro Pro (wq1 and wq2) files.
Similarly, Draw can import ClarisDraw and MacDraft files. Also, the MediaWiki export filter is improved with the additional support of several element properties.
Apple Keynote import filter has several elements that previously were ignored. The Adobe FreeHand import filter now covers formats from FreeHand 3.0 to FreeHand 11.

    Bottom Line

Overall, the code overhaul in LibreOffice 5.0 should bring lots of reliability improvements. The number of defects for 1,000 lines of code is now consistently below 0.001, according to Coverity Scan.
That means the latest release is easier to develop, maintain and debug. The amount of solved bugs is now over 25,000 and increasing rapidly, according to The Document Foundation's Meeks.
LibreOffice 5.0 is a huge winner. The only drawback is waiting for your distro's package manager repository to process the latest LibreOffice release. You don't have to wait for that, though. You can download the latest release. That gets you a .tar.gz file for your Linux distribution's architecture. Decompress the file and follow the installation directions in the read.me file.
