  • Bluetooth 5 quadruples range, doubles speed, increases data broadcasting capacity by 800%

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announced that its next release, coming late 2016 to early 2017, will be called Bluetooth 5 and will include significantly increased range, speed, and broadcast messaging capacity. Extending range will deliver robust, reliable Internet of Things (IoT) connections that make full-home and building and outdoor use cases a reality. Higher speeds will send data faster and optimize responsiveness. Increasing broadcast capacity will propel the next generation of “connectionless” services like beacons and location-relevant information and navigation. These Bluetooth advancements open up more possibilities and enable SIG companies – now at an all-time high of 30,000 member companies – to build an accessible, interoperable IoT.

“Bluetooth 5 will transform the way people experience the IoT by making it something that happens simply and seamlessly around them,” said Mark Powell, executive director of the Bluetooth SIG. “Increasing operation range will enable connections to IoT devices that extend far beyond the walls of a typical home, while increasing speed supports faster data transfers and software updates for devices. And now with the ability to broadcast a much richer set of information, Bluetooth 5 will make beacons, location awareness, and other connectionless services an even more relevant part of an effortless and seamless IoT experience”

Bluetooth 5, projected for release in late 2016 to early 2017, will quadruple range and double speed of low energy connections while increasing the capacity of connectionless data broadcasts by 800 percent. It achieves all this alongside its industry-leading power performance. With the major boost in broadcast messaging capacity, the data being transferred will be richer, more intelligent. This will redefine the way Bluetooth devices transmit information, moving away from the app-paired-to-device model to a connectionless IoT where there is less need to download an app or connect the app to a device.

More than 371 million Bluetooth enabled beacons are projected to ship by 2020, according to Patrick Connolly, Principal Analyst at ABI Research. With eight times the broadcast messaging capacity, Bluetooth 5 will further propel the adoption and deployment of beacons and location-based services in the home automation, enterprise, and industrial markets. In scenarios where contextual awareness like navigation and pin-point location are crucial – such as hassle-free airport navigation experiences, asset tracking of warehouse inventory, emergency response, even smart city infrastructure that helps the visually impaired be more mobile – Bluetooth 5 will send custom information people actually find useful in that moment without connection and application barriers.

Added Powell, “Today, there are 8.2 billion Bluetooth products in use, and the enhancements in Bluetooth 5 and planned future Bluetooth technical advancements mean that Bluetooth will be in more than one-third of all installed IoT devices by 2020. The drive and innovation of Bluetooth will ensure our technology continues to be the IoT solution of choice for all developers. ”

The addition of the Bluetooth SIG’s 30,000th member company shows that more and more companies are choosing Bluetooth as both the technology and the organization that will help them develop IoT products and services with the best consumer experiences and help bring those products and services to market faster and more successfully. Membership has grown over 11 percent since the end of 2015, now reaching a record-high with its 30,000th member, Blossom Group. The startup, which is building infrasound and low-frequency noise relaxation products, is just the latest validation that companies of all sizes and verticals are joining the SIG because the organization is working in collaboration with its members to advance the technology and make the world smarter, safer, better, and more enjoyable.

“Implementing Bluetooth as our wireless technology and joining the SIG organization was the obvious choice to ensure our products’ success,” said Luke Sanger, CEO and co-founder of Blossom Group. “Bluetooth has the ubiquity of a trusted wireless communication platform and a great history of supporting market trends and working with developers and members to produce ground-breaking products and applications. We know Bluetooth will stay ahead of the game by working with its members and embracing technological advancements – from power efficiency to IoT connectivity – to push the limits of innovation.”

    • India all set to predict monsoons with supercomputers

The Indian government is spending $60 million in the development of a supercomputer that will be able to predict monsoons which if successful will give ray of hope to dying farmers.
Weather forecast is basically an attempt to predict the next day's weather by analyzing data and other historical information. But, they are not always accurate.

In India this is not only a minor convenience for regular folk, but also is very crucial for the farmers whose fate depends upon a single word "MONSOON". Hence these supercomputers will be the key to helping Indian Agriculture Industry thrive.

It will bring an evolution. So far India has used the conventional method of studying the statistical and numerical data which unfortunately is unreliable. Past tells us its failures. Remember 2009 where it missed the country's biggest drought in 40 years. This supercomputer will be generating 3D weather models collected by planes, satellites and balloons.

It will be approximately 10 times faster than the current IBN supercomputer. Its potential to offer better forecasts will raise as much as 15% of the farm output. M. Rajeevan, the top-notch scientist in the ministry of earth sciences believes, "If everything goes well by 2017 we'll make this dynamical model operational by replacing the statistical model."

    • Galaxy S7 Edge Batman Special Edition !!

What better way to celebrate the third anniversary of the popular mobile game Injustice: Gods Among Us than with a Batman-themed phone. Samsung created the Galaxy S7 Edge Justice Edition for the occasion (rather than the release of a certain movie), mixing black and gold accents for the new version. This special model "enhanced hardware and software capability" alongside larger battery capacity which should make the mobile gaming experience a bit better.

      Injustice : God Among us

In true ludicrous Samsung fashion, it's called the Galaxy S7 Edge Injustice Edition, and it features the superhero's logo in gold on the back. The device is commemorating the third anniversary of Injustice: Gods Among Us, and it's being produced in partnership with Warner Bros. The package appears to include a Samsung Gear VR headset, as well as a real gold-plated Batarang and a rubber phone case modeled after Batman's armor.

Unfortunately, availability seems quite limited. Samsung says the device will be available in early June in select territories, including China, Singapore, Korea, Latin America, and Russia. The company will be announcing more available markets soon, it says.

This device will  support  VR and comes with  a  Gold-plated Batarang.
"We are excited to partner with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and offer a special edition of Galaxy S7 Edge for fans of Injustice: Gods Among Us," Younghee Lee, Samsung Electronics' executive VP of global marketing, said in a statement. "Samsung always seeks to provide the best mobile gaming experience for its users, and this partnership reinforces our commitment to the game’s fans."

This isn't the first time Samsung has gone full superhero. When The Avengers: Age of Ultron debuted a year ago, the company crafted an Iron Man Galaxy S6 Edge. In certain locales, the Batman handset will come bundled with a Gear VR headset for more immersive views. The phone will be available next month in China, Singapore, Korea, Latin America and Russia, but Samsung says more locations will be announced in the future.

    • Disposable Underwear For Babies, As Inspired By Modern Parents

Parasol Co., a newly launched family essentials brand that reimagines baby care for the modern parent, has just released Parasol Disposable Underwear for Babies. With a thin and ultra-soft design, both engineered and crafted to look and feel like underwear, Parasols give parents a more meaningful option in baby care that's also highly absorbent and effective in preventing leaks and blowouts.
"This is about the comfort through which your child experiences life," says CEO, Lisa Hom. "That's why we spent years developing a velvet-like topsheet to cradle your baby's skin, commissioning emerging artists to hand-paint our first season of designer inspired prints, and worked until we found the perfect balance of absorbency and thinness. What we ended up with was disposable underwear for babies - something beautiful, chic and thoughtful. It makes perfect sense when you consider the kind of experience and craftsmanship this new generation of parents demands from the products they use."
Parasol's first season of Disposable Underwear for Babies was revealed earlier this month, with three custom collections - Delight, Discover and Dream - all designed by renowned artist Ashley Goldberg. The vivid colors and bold brush strokes of the inaugural collections balance playfulness against restraint, inspired by the timeless yet whimsical nature of parenthood itself.
Available in a monthly subscription box or for individual pack purchase, parents can enjoy Parasols along with their signature wipes - an exceptionally thick, cloth-like baby wipe infused with organic aloe and refreshing cucumber. Phthalate-free, fragrance-free, alcohol-free and paraben-free, Parasol wipes are made in California and reflect the company's commitment to baby-safe materials, just as they do with their eco-conscious, responsibly made Disposable Underwear for Babies.
"We want young parents and their babies to be seen. We're creating the kinds of unexpected products for a fashionable, well-designed, deeply comforting childhood. The kind of childhood that modern parents want to give to their children," says Hom. "You don't do that by making the same thing everyone else has made for decades. You have to be daring."
To mark their launch and first season debut, Parasol and Daybreaker LA have teamed up for Lovebeats: a daytime baby rave and family event meant to indulge the senses.
    • Doubling Schrödinger's cat

Schrödinger's cat is a well-known paradox that applies the concept of superposition in quantum physics to objects encountered in everyday life. The idea is that a cat is placed in a sealed box with a radioactive source and a poison that will be triggered if an atom of the radioactive substance decays. Quantum physics suggests that the cat is both alive and dead (a superposition of states), until someone opens the box and, in doing so, changes the quantum state.

This hypothetical experiment, envisioned by one of the founding fathers of quantum mechanics in 1935, has found vivid analogies in laboratories in recent years. Scientists can now place a wave-packet of light composed of hundreds of particles simultaneously in two distinctly different states. Each state corresponds to an ordinary (classical) form of light abundant in nature.

A team of Yale scientists created a more exotic type of Schrödinger's cat-like state that has been proposed for experiments for more than 20 years. This cat lives or dies in two boxes at once, which is a marriage of the idea of Schrödinger's cat and another central concept of quantum physics: entanglement. Entanglement allows a local observation to change the state of a distant object instantaneously. Einstein once called it "spooky action at a distance," and in this case it allows a cat state to be distributed in different spatial modes.

The Yale team built a device consisting of two, 3D microwave cavities and an additional monitoring port -- all connected by a superconducting, artificial atom. The "cat" is made of confined microwave light in both cavities.

"This cat is big and smart. It doesn't stay in one box because the quantum state is shared between the two cavities and cannot be described separately," said Chen Wang, a postdoctoral associate at Yale and first author of a study in the journal Science, describing the research. "One can also take an alternative view, where we have two small and simple Schrodinger's cats, one in each box, that are entangled."

The research also has potential applications in quantum computation. A quantum computer would be able to solve certain problems much faster than classical computers by exploiting superposition and entanglement. Yet one of the main problems in developing a reliable quantum computer is how to correct for errors without disturbing the information.

"It turns out 'cat' states are a very effective approach to storing quantum information redundantly, for implementation of quantum error correction. Generating a cat in two boxes is the first step towards logical operation between two quantum bits in an error-correctible manner," said co-author Robert Schoelkopf, Sterling Professor of Applied Physics and Physics, and director of the Yale Quantum Institute.

Schoelkopf and his frequent collaborators, Michel Devoret and Steve Girvin, have pioneered the field of circuit quantum electrodynamics (cQED), providing one of the most widely used frameworks for quantum computation research. Devoret, Yale's F.W. Beinecke Professor of Physics, and Girvin, Yale's Eugene Higgins Professor of Physics and Applied Physics, are co-authors of the paper.

The research builds upon more than a decade of development in cQED architecture. The Yale team designed a variety of new features, including cylindrical 3D cavities with record quantum information storage time of more than 1 millisecond in superconducting circuits, and a measurement system that monitors certain aspects of a quantum state in a precise, non-destructive way. "We have combined quite a lot of recent technologies here," Wang said.
    • Pebble Core: A Non-Smartwatch designed for health and fitness.

Pebble announced its release of 3 new devices on May 24, which included two new smartwatches and a non-smartwatch device which focused its efforts on health and fitness. The smartwatch, Pebble 2 and Pebble Time 2, is more like a classic smartwatch with the latest versions and stainless steel case model. Both new watches have been updated to appeal to fitness fanatics and now feature a heart rate monitor and Pebble's health tracking software system.

Fitness freaks usually prefer two things – A fitness tracker and a music player. The company also wanted to innovate something other than usual smartwatches and that’s where the third non-smartwatch Pebble core is designed.

Although all smartphones can do all the Core’s functions, users prefer something convenient and easy to use. So every time when you go for a walking or jogging, you take your smartphone to track records or music player to play songs.

Bundling the GPS tracker and a music app into a watch would make it more expensive, Pebble didn’t take that route. They did something first ever non-smartwatch.

The Pebble Core is an Android-powered wearable designed for runners. It has GPS to track your running, a built-in 3G modem that lets you stream music over Spotify (need a sim card). This 3G modem can also send emergency SOS notifications. It has WiFi for syncing your running stats with apps like Runkeeper, Strava, MapMyRun, Google Fit and Under Armour. The buttons on the Core can be programmed to perform a variety of tasks, such as hailing an Uber or opening a garage door.

It has 3.5mm headset jack and if you prefer to go wireless then you can access Bluetooth. It does have 4GB storage to load songs through wifi. On its back is a magnetic clip, which can be clipped on to your shirt or your pocket.

Coming for the price, It’ll retail for $99, but the device can be pre-ordered at $69 through the early bird discount applied on limited stock and it comes in two different colours. Scheduled to be launched in 2017.

For its battery life, Migicovsky (Pebble CEO) tells that it should last 9 to 10 hours before needing a recharge. It comes with a wireless charger or you can charge it in the headphone port cable.
Still it does have some shortcomings. Say, the Core does not have a display so it needs to be synced with other smartphones and also it becomes difficult to choose or select the song without a display. As for that Spotify we mentioned earlier, its streaming works only with Spotify premium so thanks for the 4GB storage.

The product has hit the right track and took a promising approach to compete with the well-established products like Apple watch and the Samsung Gear. Pebble Core has already been a hit with numerous pre-orders booked, with the numbers rising at a very fast rate.

The video also saw Sonakshi Sinha make her first appearance as the brand ambassador of ASUS smartphones and tablets.

Blending Sonakshi’s elegance with ASUS’ expertise

The launch of the new Zenfone Max, also saw the appointment of Bollywood diva – Sonakshi Sinha as the brand’s first-ever brand ambassador in India. Sonakshi will be a part of ASUS’ digital campaign, #LiveUnplugged and has already appeared in the digital-only video for Zenfone Max - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJ_QFCASSTQ. Portrayed as a Zenfone user in the video, Sonakshi has already started using the Zenfone Max as her primary device and can be seen documenting her experience on her social media accounts.

Elaborating on her association with the brand, Sonakshi Sinha said, “I am honored to be associated with a brand that believes in strengthening the ambassador’s trust in them. My association with ASUS, second one since the Zen Festival in 2015, is in sync with today’s audiences that #LiveUnplugged, consume digital content and make decisions online. The launch for Zenfone Max involved me trying the smartphone and sharing my experience with the team at ASUS besides being a part of the digital campaign.”

While she will continue to be a part of ASUS’ product launches, the association will also entail Sonakshi using ASUS products prior to their launch in India to strengthen her connect with the brand and infuse confidence in her communication with the users.

Speaking about the Zenfone Max, Sonakshi Sinha said, “Switching to Zenfone Max has completely changed my life. I spend lesser amount of time charging my phone and more hours clicking pictures, shooting videos, playing games and listening to music. Its sophisticated design ensures that I can use it for every occasion without having to worry about changing the way my phone looks.”

Commenting on the appointment of Sonakshi Sinha and the commencement of the digital campaign, Marcel Campos, Marketing Director – Mobile Division, India said, “The audience today is gravitating towards a digital life. Their personal lives and digital ones are influencing one another, making it important for us to be present on a medium that they frequent. Sonakshi’s grace, elegance and versatility makes her persona a perfect match for ASUS’ value system. Her robust digital presence, strong connect with the audiences and inclination towards technology will help us strengthen our communication process with a user base that is well-informed, savvy and believes in quality products.”

    • Dell unveils"P4317Q" a Quadscreen Monitor

What would you call a 4 screen monitor?

      BANG ON!!

      A QUADSCREEN..

You might not be familiar with this term, but, You will want to get your hands on this once you know about it. Dell has unveiled a 43 inch 4K display. This masterpiece is called Dell P4317Q Monitor. You can use 4 separate 1080 pixel resolution displays, It also lets you zoom in and use it as a single display in 4K resolution.

On the visual connectivity front, the multi-client monitor provides one DisplayPort 1.2 connector, one mini Display Port 1.2 connector, two HDMI 1.4 ports, and one VGA port for old-school desktops and laptops. The monitor also packs one USB 3.0 port that connects the device to a laptop or desktop, four USB 3.0 ports for connecting peripherals like a mouse or keyboard (one can recharge a device), one audio input jack, one headphone jack, one RS232 serial port, and two eight-watt speakers.
New Dell monitor sits on a fixed, non-swivel stand that tilts five degrees forward and ten degrees backward. There’s also a built-in cable management system so that the numerous cords aren’t draped everywhere and creating an ugly mess on the desktop. The panel can even be thrown onto a wall too thanks to 100mm and 200mm VESA mounts.

P4317Q doesn’t come cheap, costing a meaty $1,350 on the company’s storefront. Customers can get up to 10 percent back in rewards with Dell Advantage, free two-day shipping, and a three-year limited warranty with Advanced Exchange.
    • UNIVERSAL TRANSLATOR: No more a Star Trek thing

It is claimed to be the first 'smart earpiece' capable of translating between two languages.

The company behind the technology, Waverly Labs, said: 'This little wearable uses translation technology to allow two people to speak different languages but still clearly understand each other.'

Information about how the technology works is thin on the ground, with Waverly Labs simply claiming it uses 'translation technology' embedded in an app. MailOnline has asked for clarification.

It is thought an accompanying app enables both earpieces to toggle between languages and a video shows the Pilot translating a conversation between French and English with only a small lag.

At launch, it will support English, Spanish, French and Italian, with additional languages available 'soon after', including 'East Asian, Hindi, Semitic, Arabic, Slavic, and African.'
Some users will have to pay to get additional language packs.

The firm warned: 'Every language has various dialects and the earpiece is designed to translate common dialects, although thick accents could disrupt this.'

Waverly Labs plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo where interested people will be able to pre-order the Pilot for between $129 (£90) and $179 (£125) but it's expected to retail for between $250 (£174) and $300 (£209).

Pre-orders are expected to open from 25 May, with the earpieces shipping between autumn and next spring, on a first-come-first-served basis. They will come in three colours.

The product will include two earpieces, a portable charger and access to the app, where languages can be downloaded for the earpiece.

The device is not the only one to aim to provide next-generation translation services to users.

The chief envisioning officer of Microsoft UK recently said that in the next five years, advanced technology will allow people of different nationalities to sit down and freely converse with just a smartphone between them, instantly translating their language in real-time.

Dave Coplin told The Times: 'At the moment we're at schoolboy French.
He added: 'In five years, two people will be able to sit down, put a smartphone between them, and as they're talking, the phone will translate their conversation seamlessly.'

Current technology, such as the Microsoft-owned Skype Translator, already allows for near-real-time translation of voice and video calls, in seven languages and instant messages in over 50, from Arabic to Yucatec Maya.

Launched last October, it records what the speaker says, uses a speech recognition system to convert the file to text, before relaying it through a robotic voice box.

Skype Translator currently works for English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Chinese Mandarin. Skype plans to add new languages in the coming months.

While modern systems analyse accents, idiosyncrasies, and dialects, over the next five years Skype plans to refine its technology even further, and asks users for feedback online in order to help it do so.
