So what was the best feature Apple announced at the WWDC 2016 keynote? That’s a tough one to answer, given that there were so many new concepts being introduced over Apple’s four platforms — iOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS.
However, the biggest takeway could be the fact that Apple was clearly leaning back on its decades old expertise in Artificial Intelligence and voice to give it an edge in modern day computing. So Siri was at the centre of attention during the keynote at the century-old Bill Graham Civic Centre in San Francisco. Siri will soon be available in the latest version macOS Sierra where it will be able to do everything from finding and opening documents and pulling up all kinds of information.
Siri gets Smarter:
As was predicted, Apple is opening up Siri to third-party developers by making the SDK available to them. This means app developers can now create commands letting Siri interact with their app. Users will able to call for a cab in Uber or book a table on OpenTable, by using the Hey Siri command.
Apple’s SiriKit will help developers design their apps to work with Siri for messaging, phone calls, photo search, ride booking, personal payments and workouts, or use Siri to control CarPlay apps, access climate controls or adjust radio settings within automakers’ apps.
iPhone and iPad users will find that Siri will be able to do lot more on their devices with iOS 10 update.
Siri available to outside developers:
San Francisco: Apple Inc opened up its popular Siri digital assistant to outside developers on Monday, a move which means iPhone users soon could be able to hail rides with Uber, publish photos on Shutterfly or make a call on Skype with voice commands.
The move is the latest by the world's best-known technology company as it looks to spruce up the iPhone experience as sales of its best-selling product level off.
The announcement was greeted enthusiastically by thousands of developers at Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.
Apple also gave a demonstration of Siri on the Mac computer, which for the first time will be able to search for photos, documents, music and other files via voice commands. Siri will also work similarly with Apple TV.
The presentation was kicked off by Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook asking for a moment of silence for the victims of Sunday's mass shooting in Orlando, Florida.
That was followed up by a demonstration of a new operating system for the Apple Watch that opens apps much faster than the previous version, and lets users write messages with their finger on the watch face, including in Chinese.
Apple's Siri move was largely foreseen by analysts.
"What you are seeing is just a lack of enthusiasm around apps," said analyst Brian Blau of tech research company Gartner, before the event. "If a developer can get access to their customer wherever they are, whatever device they are on, that would be the best situation."
Siri is the most visible aspect of Apple's artificial intelligence program, or AI. Rivals such as Microsoft Corp and Alphabet Inc's Google are investing heavily in their own digital assistants, analysts say. The Worldwide Developers Conference gives Apple a chance to show off its technical prowess. "Apple just can't stand still in light of this competition," said analyst Tim Bajarin of Creative Strategies.
Apple acknowledged a number of developers' grievances this month by allowing ads in App Store search results, which gives them a way to stand out in a sea of apps. And it will give developers a bigger cut of revenues on subscription apps.

Apple iOS 10 is finally here and it promises a variety of new features from a smarter Siri to interactive Messages. Here's a quick look.
iOS 10 is finally here with users and developers getting a first glimpse at the new version of Apple’s OS for iPhones, iPads and iPods at the annual WorldWide Developer Conference (WWDC 2016).
Apple CEO Tim Cook called it “the mother of all releases” as it packs 10 major new features for iOS.
This version of the mobile OS also signals an Apple that is more open, as Message and Siri SDKs will be made accessible to third-party app developers. So what does iOS 10 offer and when exactly will be available? Will it be compatible with your current iOS device? Here’s a detailed look at all those answers.
Availability and Compatibility:
First up, the developer preview of iOS 10 is now available to iOS Developer Program members at developer.apple.com. Just like with iOS 9, a public beta program will be available to iOS users in July at beta.apple.com.
iOS 10 will be available this fall as a free software update for iPhone 5 and later, all iPad Air and iPad Pro models, iPad 4th generation, iPad mini 2 and later, and iPod touch 6th generation.
Messages will be much more fun:
Messages will be much more fun:
If you look at the iOS 10 page on the Apple website, Messages occupies the most important part of the upgrade, and it’s not surprising. Apple says Messages is the most frequently used iOS app, and this time it gets an upgrade to make it all fun.
Apple is adding animations like balloons, confetti or fireworks that can take over an entire screen to celebrate a special occasion, invisible ink to send a message which is only revealed after a friend swipes over it, and handwritten notes option for more a personal touch.
Emojis will play a big role in the new update Messages app, and iOS 10 will automatically suggest emojis that can replace a particular word in a message. Think words like Happy, Excited, Sad; you can now just go for an emoji instead with a simple tap. It also means you don’t have to keep scrolling forever in the keyboard to find the right emoji.
Tapback is the new feature which let users respond with a simple tap. Users can also send rich links to play content inline (even Apple Music links or open entire articles) without actually leaving the conversation thread.
Apple is also opening up Messages to developers so they can create apps, other experiences within Messages to let users do more in the chat threads. Just like Facebook Messenger wants to add its own App Store, Messages in iOS will have also one. As Apple VP Craig Federighi showed in the demo, it will be possible for users to order food collectively from a group thread in Messages, and even do payments using some of these special apps.
Messages will also support GIFs, ability to edit photos. There’s also a feature called Digital Touch Mode, where users can create fun videos/photos and send them in the app.
Siri gets Smarter and more open:
Maps:
Apple Maps has also been redesigned and will now have a slide up tab showing time to work, calendar appointments etc. Apple is adding its ‘proactive assistance’ feature to Maps to help figure out your route, based on appointments or daily routine.
Apple Maps also gets new extensions, and again third-party apps can be integrated with Maps. In the US, apps like OpenTable will integrate bookings right into Maps, and services like Uber and Lyft will also be integrated. Google Maps in India is already integrated with Uber, Ola and shows cab options as well. Hopefully the upgrade Apple Maps with extensions will be available to users across the globe.
Once a route is planned, Maps can search for gas stations, restaurants, coffee shops and more and provides an estimate of how the stop impacts the length of the trip. In India, Maps doesn’t support all these features yet.
Photos:
Photos gets an upgrade in iOS 10 to become smarter and help people find photos from forgotten occasions. Memories as Apple calls it, will scan photos and videos and finds forgotten events, trips and people, and puts them in all in one collection. Sort of what Google is doing with its own Photos app.
There’s also the Memory Movie, which is an automatically edited movie with theme music, titles and cinematic transitions.
Apple’s Craig Federighi explained the company is relying on advanced computer vision, facial recognition techniques, object and scene recognition to create these ‘Memories.’ Apple insists that Memories does not compromise user privacy.
Home App:
HomeKit App will now be replaced by a simpler Home app, and this is mostly for those who have a smart home. Home will be a one-stop app to manage all those smart accessories in the house, be it the lights or the curtains. And yes, users can also control them via Siri. Users can also set up automatic triggers according to time of day or action. For most users based in India, this might not be so relevant.
Privacy:
We know privacy is a top-agenda for Apple, and the recent FBI standoff made this quite clear. Apple says in iOS iMessage, FaceTime, and HomeKit will use end-to-end encryption to protect user data, making sure it can’t be read by anyone, not Apple or third-parties.
Apple also says it will use “on-device intelligence” to identify the people, objects and scenes in Photos, and power QuickType suggestions. Additionally data sent from Siri, Maps, News etc won’t be used to build user profiles, even though it will sent to Apple’s Servers.
iOS 10 will see Apple use a technology called Differential Privacy to help discover the usage patterns of a large number of users without compromising individual privacy. Apple says this will help them improve QuickType and emoji suggestions, Spotlight deep link suggestions and Lookup Hints in Notes.
Apple Music:
Apple Music has been redesigned to make it easier to use. The Library, For You, Browse and Radio tabs have been revamped
Apple News:
The News app has also been redesigned with a new “For You” section, support for breaking news notifications and paid subscriptions.
iOS 10 User Experience:
The new ‘Raise to Wake’ function automatically wakes the screen as you raise your iPhone. Lock Screen is now more interactive with richer notifications, which display entire texts, photos, videos.
There’s also a deeper 3D Touch integration with iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus for apps like Weather, Stocks, Calendar.
QuickType:
A smart Siri will offer QuickType option adding contextual predictions when you’re typing based on relevant information. Predictive typing now supports multiple languages without switching keyboards.
Phone app:
In iOS 10, the Phone app adds integration for third-party VoIP calls, voicemail transcription and a new caller ID extension for spam alerts. Apple says it will work internationally, and hopefully in India too.
Safari:
Safari now supports split-view for iPad.
Notes:
Users can now collaborate on a Note, sort of like how sharing works on Google Docs.
Live Photos:
Live Photos can now be edited, and come with inbuilt stabilisation.
Apple Pay:
Apple Pay is being extended to websites on Safari, in addition to paying in-stores and within apps.

Summary :
Apple has revealed plans for all its devices in the coming year including a more intelligent Siri and Messages app, quicker Apple Watch and easier to use laptops.
At the technology firm's annual software conference, WWDC, chief executive Tim Cook and fellow executives revealed software updates for all of Apple's products - iPhone, iPad, Mac computers, Apple Watch and Apple TV - with Mr Cook saying the company's work "should lift humanity".
The annual refresh of the mobile operating system saw iOS 10 unveiled. The most prominent feature revolves around the Messages app, which has seen its interactivity expanded. Users will be able to replace words with emoji in a single tap, and send handwritten notes, while special "invisible ink" messages will appear when the screen is swiped, and animations can be added to a conversation that fill the entire screen.
The app has also been opened to developers for the first time so it can be used to complete financial transactions and other tasks.
The move is seen by some as a response to the growing popularity of other messaging apps, including WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.
As part of the update to Apple's desktop computer software, OS X was renamed macOS, with this year's version named Sierra after the mountain range that spans California and Nevada.
Siri, Apple's voice-based virtual assistant, has been added to the Mac for the first time, as has the ability to pay using Apple Pay. An option to use the payment service will appear on websites, with confirmation requests sent to a user's phone, where they can use their fingerprint to authorise them.
Mac users will also be able to use their Apple Watch to unlock a Mac when in close proximity to their laptop.
Apple Music, the subscription-based streaming service launched at WWDC last year, was also given a redesign after many reported the app to be too confusing to use. A user's existing music library has been pushed to the front of the app, with more playlist suggestions being offered by Apple.
All the updates showcased are being made available to developers this week, ahead of free upgrades for all Apple customers in the autumn.
Mr Cook took time out at the beginning of the presentation to pay tribute to the victims of the Orlando shootings, telling the auditorium that Apple offered its "deepest condolences to everyone whose lives were touched by the violence", before leading a moment's silence in tribute.
India at WWDC
There was quite a bit of India at the WWDC keynote from Priyanka Chop featuring on the homescreen of the redesigned Apple Music app to Craig Federighi, Apple’s SVP Software Engineering (macOS, iOS 10), trying to order a deconstructed samosa from a Indian food cart using the revamped messaging app. Indian food ordering app Zomato found a mention when new features in Maps where being shown. However, there was more for the Chinese audience, as it is still a much bigger market for Apple.

Makers of Siri, Dag Kittlaus and Adam Cheyer, left the company to begin creating yet another AI assistant. It's called Viv. The duo left Apple after disagreements over the functionality of Siri.
Viv is believed to do more than Siri or other existing virtual networks. It's an AI assistant that we can speak to, but the difference here is that Viv is supposed to be able to handle complex requests and actually carry them out. The basic idea behind Viv is that it will be able to book dinner and a movie, and many more like this.

Viv Labs' goal is to get its AI inside of tech everywhere. To make all of that work, Viv Labs is partnering with outside companies. GrubHub, Uber, Zocdoc, and SeatGuru are among Viv's 50-or-so launch partners, according to the Post.
Rather than selling out to a single company like Siri (the Post reports that Google and Facebook have already made offers), Viv's founders want their new assistant to get inside of TVs, cars, and all kinds of connected devices.
The report talks about how Viv can help order a pizza. On asking Viv to order a pizza, the AI bot typed if the user would like toppings. “The engineers, eight in all, started jumping in: “Pepperoni.” “Half cheese.” “Caesar salad.” Emboldened by the result, they peppered Viv with more commands: Add more toppings. Remove toppings. Change medium size to large,” adds the report. After 40 minutes made to orders pizzas arrived. This was one of the real-time demos and the technology is expected to be unveiled soon.
“In many ways, Viv appears to be similar to Amazon’s Alexa platform. Both rely on third-party service integration and bypass the use of any third-party apps in favor of direct communication with the service itself,” points out 9To5Mac.
The race for building AI bots has already begun with Facebook and Microsoft at the forefront.

Here Something new and funny is tried with Siri, iPhone's intelligent personal assistant. Siri is asked if Jon Snow (character of "Game Of Thrones") is dead or alive. Snow was seen bleeding to death in season 5 of the series, but, it is not sure if he had actually died or if he somehow manage to survive.
Apple's personal assistant has been trying to answer, most important question of Game of Thrones, in her own unique style.
1. Siri wishes that someone must be taking care of Ghost (Snow's werewolf)
4. Siri says Snow was trying to survive, & it do work
5. Siri is trying to prove herself clever
Siri seems to be confused like all of us.
Now, it is up to you to decide whether Siri is intelligent or not.
iOS 9 was released on September 9 2015. First devices to ran the new operating system were the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Currently, there are 21 devices that have been upgraded to the latest OS. On March 31 new version of iOS 9 was released i.e. iOS 9.3.1, that fixes the bug causing applications to become unresponsive and to crash when tapping on a web link.

Now, some of feature and hidden tricks of this OS are:
1.) To call someone from your list of contact, we have to type its name and Siri (Get Siri-ous), the virtual assistant of Apple devices with its predictive search capability, will find that contact immediately. On the left side of the home screen, you’ll see the picture of that contact and in its right side you’ll find the three options: to make a voice call, to send a message or to make a video call.
Notes app allows you to create To Do lists, then sync them to other devices running on iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan. After creating a new note, tap on the plus symbol placed above the keyboard, then start adding new items and finally, make the list complete by tapping on the circle.
2.) Notes has another hidden option – it allows you to add links and attachments by pressing the share icon and choosing Notes while browsing the web with Safari.
3.) If you are lost in a large city or you are unable to figure out your path, then Apple Maps will offer you public transportation directions, no matter if you’re walking on foot or traveling by bus or train. Also, you will know how long it takes to get from one place to the next.
4.) iCloud Drive can be used to sync files between iPhones, iPads and Macs and the shortcut of this application can be added to the home screen by going to Settings > iCloud > Show on Home Screen.
5.) Siri can also remind you to look at a webpage later, in case you don’t have time to explore it right now? Well, if you say “Siri Remind me about this” and add a location or date and time, the intelligent virtual assistant will add that item to your reminders and when the time comes, she will pop-up and give you the link of that specific website.
6.) iOS 9.3.1 can run Night Shift and Low Power Mode simultaneously, as long as you follow a particular combination.
- Enable Low Power Mode via ‘Settings –> Battery’
- Start Siri and say “Enable Night Shift”. Siri will reply: “In order to turn on Night Shift, I’ll have to turn off Low Power Mode. Shall I continue?”
- Reply “Yes” and press the sleep button before the response is confirmed. You will then hear Siri’s confirmation beep
- Unlock your iPhone and, providing you did step 3 correctly, you will see both Night Shift and Low Power Mode are enabled at the same time
