Truecaller on Tuesday announced that it is adding a new feature to its popular app, activating real-time Hindi transliteration of the caller ID funcIt is being said that the Hindi Language support would be part of the new transliteration feature which comes as an update to the Truecaller app.Adding more, users can activate this feature by enable the Hindi language option in the Settings Menu.
The feature will be available to all devices running version 6.1 of the application.Truecaller recently crossed the 100 million user base milestone in the country. It apparently identifies 900 million calls per month, with 1 in 7 calls being labeled as spam.
Krishnamurthy claims the company’s research had indicated that people utilized the app majorly because it helped them identify incoming calls, which is why it decided to leapfrog from only translation to transliteration in Hindi.
Truecaller recently announced it would come pre-loaded with the Samsung Z3 Tizen OS-based smartphone. It also launched its sister app Truedialer for users of the software. It further released an upgrade to its Windows Phone platform to support Windows 10 Mobile. The application went through an extensive redesign and added several new functions.
While Truecaller has launched this feature with an aim to cross the 150 million user mark by the end of 2015, this clearly looks to be an inspiration from Google's recent strategies to reach more users in India especially the non-English speaking citizens.
Also, the company seems to be having plans of adding support for other Indian languages in the coming 2-3 months.
