Online retailer Flipkart is planning to sell automobiles and accessories online as it will boost revenue and deliver profits. The Bengaluru-based company plans to aggressively push sales of motorcycles, scooters and cars on its platform besides selling spare parts and services, according to a top official.
The move will pit India's largest online retailer against portals like CarDekho andCarTrade as well as sharpen competition with primary rivals like Amazon and Snapdeal. "We believe that Flipkart can solve teething issues such as long delivery times and offer price transparency," said Adarsh Menon, vice-president for electronics and automobiles at Flipkart.
According to industry estimates, the total automobiles industry is worth about $50 billion, with sales till now only coming through offline channels like auto dealers. But auto portals like CarDekho and CarTrade have started generating leads for dealers online, even as companies like Flipkart take it a step further by closing the loop.

In the past couple of years, we have read and reported several instances wherein e commerce buyers claimed to have received stones instead of iPod in their delivery; or receiving coconut, Vim bar instead of their phone.
But what if the claim was false and the buyers intentionally reported such instances to dupe the ecommerce portal?
From now on, it can lead to an arrest.
In one of the rarest instances of an ecommerce initiating investigation against fraud, police have arrested two techies from Hyderabad who had duped Flipkart of an iPhone worth Rs 51,590.
As per Chikadpally, Hyderabad police station’s additional inspector P Balavanthaiah, accused Atul Sharma and Naveen Kumar have been arrested after a complaint from Flipkart.
The Modus Operandi
Atul Sharma ordered an iPhone 6 costing Rs 51,590 from Flipkart. The order was made under the name of Naveen, was delivered within 2-3 days.
However, after receiving the handset, Atul claimed that the package contained rubber and paper; and said that there was no phone. Flipkart immediately refunded the entire amount back to Atul.
As per a statement, Flipkart said, “In good faith, we refunded the entire amount to him,”
However, Flipkart investigated the lost handset, and based on its IMEI number, found it to be in operational use somewhere in Hyderabad. They complained to police regarding this and further investigation by the cops led to Atul and Naveen who were in possession of the handset.
After the arrest, Flipkart issued a statement, saying, “The present case is case in a point to show that several customers are taking advantage of the return and refund policy of e-commerce companies to indulge in theft and cheating,”
Consumer Rights And Corporate Policies
Last year, Government proposed that ecommerce portals should come under purview of Consumer Protection Law. This was proposed after rising cases of frauds reported against eCommerce companies in India.
However, there has to be a balance between the privileges and the law; and honesty must be the norm.
In a recent thread posted on Reddit India, it was found that Amazon provides ‘partial refund’ to all customers worldwide, except India. The submitter of this information found this while chatting with a customer representative of Amazon.
Maybe Amazon has discovered instances wherein Indian customers have been abusing this facility or there can be some technical complications as well.
But duping ecommerce portals by fake claims of damaged/incomplete delivery can harm the industry and the fine line of trust would be forever blurred.
One of India’s largest e-commerce portals, Flipkart, has announced its tie-up with electronics retailer Spice Hotspot to showcase its exclusive range of smartphones to prospective buyers who are not yet comfortable with the idea of buying without trying. As part of this new initiative which is being called ‘assisted e-commerce’ by Flipkart, customers can experience Flipkart-exclusive devices at designated ‘experience zones’ within select Spice Hotspot outlets. The staff at those designated stores will not only be on-hand to demo the gadgets to prospective customers, but will also assist them with their queries and help them in placing their orders through the Flipkart mobile app, which is available on Android, iOS and Windows Mobile. Once an order is placed, customers can take delivery of their product either directly at their home, or at a Spice Store of their choosing, if they so desire.
Announcing the new joint-venture with Spice Hotspot, Flipkart’s retail director, Mr. Sandeep Karwa, said that this initiative is aimed at small town India for the most part, where digital literacy, especially amongst the older generation, leaves a lot to be desired. According to him, “This is targeted mainly at places where online shopping is still catching up. Customers in Tier-3 and Tier-4 towns have heard about online shopping but are still circumspect. This initiative will empower and ease customers from smaller cities to shop online”. Currently, Flipkart experience centers are already operational in 19 different cities, within 30 different Spice Hotspot outlets.
Over the past couple of years, online retailers in India have been tying-up with smartphone companies for exclusive rights to sell certain devices. The trend started with the first-generation Moto G, which was available exclusively on Flipkart, and can be called the pioneer of the trend in the country. While Motorola devices continue to be Flipkart-exclusive, other smartphone makers like Motorola’s parent Lenovo, along with OnePlus, Asus, YU from Micromax, Black from Xolo, along with a whole host of brands, have been offering their smartphones exclusively on one e-commerce portal or another. For example, the Nexus 6P will be available exclusively on Flipkart along with the Google Play Store, in the country. Currently, while the OnePlus 2 is exclusive to Amazon India, Asus’ ZenFone range of devices are exclusive to Flipkart. However, the pull of traditional retail in a country with notoriously low internet penetration is now seemingly too much for Flipkart to ignore, as it embarks on its offline journey in partnership with an established retailer.
Lenovo launches two new devices in India – Vibe P1 and Vibe P1m. The Vibe P1 is priced at Rs 15,000 and the P1m at Rs 7,999. Both devices will be available exclusively via Flipkart. The registration for the devices starts today, and the Vibe P1m goes on sale on 28 October (Wednesday), while the P1 will be available starting 27 October (Tuesday).

Both the Lenovo Vibe P1 (seen above) and Lenovo Vibe P1m run on Android 5.1 Lollipop, and are powerhouses featuring 5000mAh and 4000mAh batteries respectively. The Vibe P1m is the 'lite' variant of the Vibe P1, and features a smaller display, different processor, and less RAM.
The Vibe P1 features a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection; Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz; Adreno 405 GPU; 3GB of RAM; 16GB storage; expandable storage support via microSD card; NFC; USB OTG; 13-megapixel rear camera; 5-megapixel front camera; dual-SIM with dual 4G LTE support, as well as 24-watt charging capability that's claimed to charge the smartphone a bit faster.
The Lenovo Vibe P1m on the other hand features a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) display. It is powered by a 64-bit quad-core MediaTek MT6735 processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. The smartphone supports expandable storage.
At the event, the company also disclosed to have sold 3 million 4G phones in India so far and that accounts to 20 phones per minute.
Earlier this week, Lenovo India launched three 4G-enabled new smartphones in the country - the Lenovo A1000, Lenovo A6000 Shot, and the Lenovo K3 Note Music. The smartphones will be available via offline retail stores from the last week of October, priced at Rs. 4,999, Rs. 9,999, and Rs. 12,999 respectively.
The Alcatel Flash 2 has been launched in India, priced at Rs. 9,299. The smartphone will go on sale via Flipkart from October 27.
The smartphone, which will be sold in its Volcanic Grey colour variant, comes with a 5-inch IPS LCD HD display (720x1280 screen resolution) with 5-point multi-touch capacitive touchscreen. The Alcatel Flash 2 is powered by a a 64-bit MediaTek MT6753 octa-core SoC clocked at 1.3GHz coupled with Mali-T720MP4 GPU. It comes paired with 2GB LPDDR3 RAM and 16GB internal storage that can be expanded by via microSD card (up to 128GB).
Other features of the handset include a 13-megapixel rear-camera (Samsung S5K3M2 ISOCELL Sensor) with Phase Detection Autofocus and f/2.0 aperture. It supports autofocus and up to 4 times digital zoom, and can record videos in full-HD video resolution. It bears a 'realtone' flash module.Other features of the handset include a 13-megapixel rear-camera (Samsung S5K3M2 ISOCELL Sensor) with Phase Detection Autofocus and f/2.0 aperture. There's a 3000mAh battery on board the Alcatel Flash 2, which as the company claims, can last for 25 hours on a single charge on 2G network. 3000mAhOn Friday, Flipkart CEO Sachin Bansal decided to get out of his comfortable air-conditioned office and went out to learn about the challenges of delivery boys and to gain insights into the online buyer's psyche.
In a first, the corporate honcho went out in the sun and delivered goods to various customers.

"Over the next 15-20 days, everyone will go out and deliver to customers, starting with some of the leaders," Binny Bansal, cofounder of Flipkart, told Economic Times.
While the India's largest online marketplace has grown to become an eCommerce juggernaut valued at more than $15 billion, the gesture is also a reminder of Flipkart's early days in 2007, when the two Bansals scurried across Bengaluru on their scooters to deliver books.
So its a third day of flipkart's big billion day,and the hoax saga is still going on
Short version
Yes, they're probably doing business in the most Indian way of finding loopholes and jugaad that we do. So if that's the kind of "Indian company" you want to support and feel patriotic about, go ahead.
Long Version
Last year, Flipkart CEO Sachin Bansal had to apologise to customers cancelling orders, pushing up prices, and glitches in the Flipkart website during the company’s annual, much-hyped #BigBillionDay sale. This year, Flipkart seems to be struggling again. This seems straightforward, but here’s what a lot of people got when they tried to launch the app:

Flipkart should stop this flop show— Ricky (@vohrarohit) October 12, 2015Meanwhile, Amazon and Snapdeal, Flipkart’s main competitors who also had their own sales, seemed to handle the heavy traffic just fine. Snapdeal even issued a statement saying that it saw record traffic for its Electronics Monday sale and was on track to reach $100 million in transactions.
Naturally, Snapdeal co-founder Rohit Bansal couldn’t help gloating.

Flipkart Big Billion Days Sale 2015 is app-only, which means you can browse the website, but to actually avail discounts as part of the sale, you will need to download the Flipkart app.Flipkart Big Billion Days Sale seemed to get off to a rocky start Tuesday midnight, as the e-commerce giant's website and app looked to be struggling to cope up with the heavy traffic, a scenario that was reminiscent of last year's Big Billion Sale. Irate customers took to twitter to complain about the Flipkart Big Billion Days Sale almost as soon as the sale kicked off.I tried to access the Flipkart website, but we were greeted by the "503 service unavailable"error just a couple of minutes past midnight. Refreshing the page a few minutes later resulted in the page loading just fine, but we were far from the only ones who faced the problem. The Flipkart Big Billion Days sale comes on the heels of Snapdeal's big Monday sale that had its share of great deals and seemed to handle the demand just fine, but did raise questions about some of the deals on offer. Amazon is holding the Great Indian Festive Sale on the same days as Flipkart, but its sale kicks off at 8am on Tuesday.

Flipkart’s Big Billion Days Sale is here again and starting from October 13 midnight till October 17, customers can avail heavy discounts on various products . This is the season of Festival Diwali so all the online retailers give us the so many heavy discount .
The five day-long app-only shopping event for customers to avail exciting offers and discounts across 70+ product categories .The aim was to target more first-time buyers who would be more likely to buy online if given an incentive in the form of a discount.
Flipkart's Big Billion Days sale last year met with mixed responses from all across. A lot of customers were unable to access the website for some amount of time, and those who were able to login faced other problems like cancellation of orders. On the other hand the company was somewhat proud of the numbers it managed to flaunt during the sale. This year, the Flipkart Big Billion Days sale returns with even more to offer and only on mobile app.
Amazon is also holding a five-day sale from Tuesday to Saturday to take on rivals Flipkart. Snapdeal is running its Electronics Monday Sale today.
